In a horrific act of aggression, US and British warplanes launched a deadly airstrike on the Ras Isa Port in western Yemen on the night of April 17, 2025, killing at least 74 civilians and injuring more than 171. The health authorities in Houthi-controlled Yemen confirmed the casualty figures. Among the dead are reportedly women and children, making this one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent times.
Terrorism in the Name of Anti-Terrorism
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the target of the strike was to weaken the Houthis’ economic infrastructure. They alleged the Ras Isa Port was being used for funding military operations. However, this port is widely known to be a vital hub for fuel, food, and medical supply distribution for millions of suffering Yemenis.
This was not a military strike — it was state-sponsored terrorism, carried out under the banner of “anti-terrorism”. The reality: the most powerful nations on earth once again chose to bomb a starving, war-torn country.
Clear Violation of International Law
International observers and human rights organizations are calling this a clear violation of international humanitarian law. Iran and other countries have strongly condemned the attack, branding it a war crime. The Houthis, in response, have vowed retaliation.
Experts fear this attack will further destabilize Yemen, intensify the humanitarian crisis, and push the region toward broader conflict.
A World of Double Standards
The silence of many Western governments and mainstream media reflects the double standards of global politics.
If 74 Americans had died in a similar strike, the world would be in outrage. But when Yemenis die, the world turns away.
